Endovenous closure with biological glue - VenaSeal™ Closure System

This is the newest, the most advanced and the safest endovenous surgery technique.
VenaSeal™ Closure System as a treatment method was introduced to the world only in 2012, and Latvia is the fifth country in the world to use it.

This is not a thermal or chemical ablation method, so it allows treatment of patients to whom anaesthetics are not recommended. The vein gets closed on the inside by special organic glue and then turns into connective tissues. The procedure is completely painless and requires no anaesthesia. No hematomas (bruising) and skin numbness develop after the procedure.

It is possible that this method will replace all thermal ablation techniques.

At present, the biggest downside of this technique is the high price. It can be comparable to a Rolls Royce car - exclusive, but expensive. It would be recommended for patients wishing maximum comfort and visual effects on the very next day after surgery. This technique requires no need for compression stockings.

With a special catheter, biological glue is introduced in the vein of the patient. The vein walls are then glued together by exerting pressure on the skin. The glued vein is absorbed a year after the procedure. This method has several major advantages: it is absolutely painless, there can be no adverse effect on the surrounding tissues, no anesthesia is required, there is no need for compression stockings, shortest recovery period, immediate visual effect and immediately after the procedure the patient can resume his/her daily activities.

Endovenous laser surgery - EVLT (Eufoton, Biolitec, Dornier)

Lasers acts directly on the water in the blood vessel and vein walls, closing the vein which is then absorbed by the tissues. Consequently the symptoms of pain after the surgery are reduced and recovery is very rapid. After the operation the patient can immediately return home and return to their daily life the next day.

In Europe, endovenous laser treatment is the most commonly performed technique for treating varicose veins using laser energy. Initially, shorter wavelength lasers were used in such surgeries. Later, with the development of technologies, they were replaced by longer wavelength lasers. They act much more selectively thus making post-surgical periods completely painless.

A laser targets water inside a blood vessel, causing the vein to close and seal shut. Then such treated vein is absorbed in tissue. This procedure is minimally invasive and almost painless. Recovery passes rapidly.

Benefits of surgery– this surgery is the most affordable for patients. It is the longest-used method for vein treatment in Latvia. Specialists of the Baltic Vein Centre are the most experienced in application of this method as they use it since 2002.

Endovenous radio frequency surgery - RFO, EVRF

The vein is heated under control with a special catheter. A great benefit to patients is that these operations are less painful and during the postoperative process the patients do not have the need to use painkillers. After the operation the patient can immediately return home and return to their daily life the next day.

It gives a possibility to treat all kinds of varicose veins with one method that can be applied for both the arterial veins, side branches and blood vessel webs.

Method is veryprecisebecause device automatically regulates energy capacity and duration; therefore it provides additional safety while excluding the application of improper energy parameters.  

Advantages of the surgery – the oldest and most studied endovenous ablation method in the world. The most used method in USA. Different kind of electrodes are available; therefore it is possible to cure veins of different diameters.

Endovenous thermal occlusion with steam microimpulses – SVS (VenoSteam)

It is an injection system that emits through the catheter microimpulses of heated water vapor. Thus the vein wall contracts and closes. With this method, varices and side branches can be closed, which was not possible with the previous technologies. SVS (VenoSteam) technology is particularly innovative, it is a progressive thermal endoluminal vein treatment method that has won 1st place in the European Venous Forum in 2010 as the most original treatment of high-quality. After the operation the patient can immediately return home and return to their daily life the next day.

Benefits of surgery - the steam flowing into lateral branches and perforant veins reduces the need for other techniques. This method is particularly suitable for recurrent vein surgeries and for treatment of anatomically complex veins.

Sclerotherapy (foam technology with ultrasound control)

Sclerotherapy is closure (or elimination) of an injured or varicose vein by injecting a special medicine - sclerosant in it. Depending on the diameter of the injured vein, the sclerosant may be applied both as foam and fluid. Foam sclerotherapy has the advantage that the foam completely fills the damaged vessel having a maximum contact with the walls, so that the impact on them is much stronger. Using foam sclerotherapy, it is possible to also close large varicose branches, so surgical intervention is not always required. Sclerotherapy with fluid is mostly used to close small venous capillaries. In order to inject the medicine in the most precise way, if necessary, we use a special halogen lamp - Veinlite transiluminator.

The advantages of the technique - the sclerotherapy procedure lasts for about 30 minutes; after the procedure the patient must put on compression stockings prescribed by the physician that should be used for 14-20 days. Patients can continue their usual daily activities; however, they should refrain from hot bath, sauna, and, advisable, from flights.

There is a myth that the damaged vein is restored over time after sclerotherapy. This is a wrong idea, this blood vessel cannot restore any more, however, other damaged veins may appear in the course of life.

Sclerotherapy (liquid and foam technology)

If the trunk veins are healthy, but only side branches are damaged or small capillary network is visible, it can be eliminated in tens of minutes using sclerotherapy. A medication is administered, that chemically interacts with the vein wall and the vein disappears.

Transcutaneous lasertherapy

Closure by laser of small capillaries of blood vessels on face and feet (Nd/Yag 1064 nm, Dornier Medtech medilas D 1470 nm diode, KTP 532 nm and Candela Vbeam™ Perfecta 595 nm lasers). Transcutaneous small vein closure with IPL Intense Pulsed Light. A laser ray is absorbed by red structures of blood vessels, high temperature is achieved and a blood vessel is closed. The procedure requires no anaesthesia; it is sufficient to make cold applications during and after the procedure. After the procedure patients have redness, oedema; scabs may occur.


Thermocoagulation- with this method, using fine needle punctures, thermical impulses are delivered and the smallest blood vessel capillaries can be closed both on face and feet. The necessary result can be achieved in one procedure and it does not leave cosmetic defects.

Treatment lasts for 10 to 15 minutes and during this time up to 40 - 50 cm of blood vessels can be processed. After the treatment patient can freely get back to his/her usual lifestyle.
