Vein treatment methods
Today, vein treatment is as gentle and individual as possible. Thanks to advances in medical technology, it is possible to find the most effective treatment method or combination of treatment methods for each patient, according to the indications, the person's rhythm of life, state of health, time and financial possibilities.
Vein treatment methods can be divided according to their purpose.
For discomfort relief:
- medication and compression therapy - over-the-counter medicines for venous insufficiency are recommended to reduce swelling and heaviness in the legs. Swelling can also be reduced by wearing compression stockings. The phlebologist may also recommend compression stockings to pregnant women as a preventive measure.
For cosmetic defects:
- transcutaneous laser therapy to close small capillaries and prevent skin pigmentation;
- small-vessel diathermocoagulation;
- foam sclerotherapy to close small veins - a medicine is injected into the vein, it closes and gradually disappears;
- foam sclerotherapy in combination with transcutaneous lasers.
Vein surgery and manipulation:
- biofilm method - the vein is sealed from the inside. No anaesthesia is required, and no compression stockings need to be worn after surgery;
- laser surgery using the latest generation of lasers;
- total laser ablation (total EVLA) - a unique modification of the laser method, using a third-generation laser in combination with the latest generation of light guides;
- radiofrequency surgery;
- miniphlebectomy.
The rehabilitation period after vein surgery and other medical manipulations depends on the method chosen, the extent of the surgery and the patient's individual factors. Vein treatment is gentle and requires only a few hours in hospital after manipulation (longer if major surgery), after which the patient can resume daily activities, following the doctor's instructions, and return to the specialist for a follow-up visit (usually 10-14 days after surgery).
For two weeks after thermal vein surgery (e.g. laser vein surgery), you should avoid increased physical activity and exercise, and wear compression stockings for an average of one month. There are no such restrictions after the biofilm method. During the rehabilitation period, it is advisable to avoid heat treatments and hot baths or showers.
